Pediatric Trauma - Management of the Pediatric Trauma Patient
- Rarely life-threatening but may be limb-threatening
- Splint to reduce further injury and decrease pain
- Examine distal perfusion, motor strength and sensation before and after placement
- Traction splints should be applied for femoral fractures after bleeding has been controlled
- Use direct pressure and tourniquets to control severe extremity hemorrhage
- Place amputated limbs on ice and transport to the hospital with patient
- Administer analgesics
