Pediatric Trauma - Management of the Pediatric Trauma Patient
Provide supportive treatment to prevent secondary brain injury including:
- Early airway management if needed
- Maintain O2 Saturation > 95% (if SaO2 drops below 90%, mortality
increases twofold)
- Maintain ETCO2 at normal levels (40-45mmHg)
- Maintain patient normotensive (> 60 mmHg in Infants, > 70mmHg in toddlers, > 80mmHg in preschoolers/school-aged children, >90mmHg in older children)
- IV Fluid KVO unless patient is hypotensive
- Elevate the head if able to do so while maintaining spinal immobilization
