Pelvic Injuries

Pelvic injuries in children are most commonly the result of a pedestrian struck
  • Significant force required to fracture or disrupt the pelvic ring
  • The pelvis is very vascular and susceptible to significant hemorrhage
  • If a pelvic fracture is detected, apply a pelvic binder
    • Stabilize fractures, decrease blood loss, diminish further injury and pain with movement
  • Pelvic binder application, fluid resuscitation and expedient transport is the key to survival in the prehospital setting
