Pediatric Trauma - Management of the Pediatric Trauma Patient
- Pain often undertreated
- Pain management helps:
- Reduce anxiety
- Decrease catecholamine release
- Improve tachycardia and hypertension
- Patient cooperation with assessment and procedures
- Opiates, especially Morphine, are most commonly used via IV or IO routes.
- Caution:
- Patients with multisystem trauma - may lower blood pressure in hypovolemia
- Multiple doses may cause respiratory depression
- Dose appropriately based on weight and titrate to effect
