Management of Child Abuse
The first step in the management of a child who is a victim of abuse is to ensure the safety of responders and the child.
- Assess and treat the child for any life-threatening injuries.
- Document findings and witness accounts of the injury.
- Notify law enforcement and child protective services.
- Do not leave child alone with caretakers.
- Transport the patient to an appropriate hospital and report concerns of maltreatment to hospital staff.
