Pediatric Trauma: Module 3
Increased Intracranial Pressure
- Skull is a rigid, enclosed space.
- Brain tissue, CSF, blood.
- Early signs of ↑ ICP:
- Altered level of consciousness, headache, nausea, vomiting, amnesia, seizures.
- Signs of Herniation Syndrome:
- Pupil dilation on the side of the injury.
- Coma.
- Cushing's Triad (hypertension, bradycardia, irregular respirations).
- Decorticate, or decerebrate, posturing.
