Increased Intracranial Pressure


  • Skull is a rigid, enclosed space.
    • Brain tissue, CSF, blood.
  • Early signs of ↑ ICP:
    • Altered level of consciousness, headache, nausea, vomiting, amnesia, seizures.


  • Signs of Herniation Syndrome:
    • Pupil dilation on the side of the injury.
    • Coma.
    • Cushing's Triad (hypertension, bradycardia, irregular respirations).
    • Decorticate, or decerebrate, posturing.
