Secondary Assessment
- Once the ABCDEs are completed and any identifiable life treats have been addressed, a secondary assessment should be performed.
- The secondary assessment consists of:
- Obtaining a set of vital signs.
- A detailed, systematic head-to-toe examination.
- A definitive treatment plan should be made based on injuries and findings.
- Critical interventiions should take priority over additional patient assessments.
- If a decision has been made to transport the patient, the secondary assessment should be completed en route to the hospital.
