In addition to prevention, effective assessment, treatment and transport of these patients is vital to achieve the best outcomes.

Children are more likely to have multi-system trauma as well as internal injuries without obvious external signs.
Emergency providers can have the greatest impact on survival and trauma patients in the early post injury phase.
