Mitral balloon valvuloplasty is a procedure in which a catheter is introduced into the circulation and a balloon is inflated to open the valve in mitral stenosis. The procedure may be carried out in symptomatic patients with pliable mitral valve leaflets who have no significant mitral regurgitation and no evidence of left atrial thrombus.
